The Desire 816 has been one of the best selling mid rangers for HTC in the past year. It carries forward HTC’s new design language and packs a decent set of internal specifications. And while Sense has it’s fair share of followers, no ones likes to get left behind while the others are getting the latest flavour of Android. So here we are. CyanogenMod 12 has arrived with it’s AOSP and Lollipop goodness for the HTC Desire 816 and we are loving it! Want to join in the fun? Pre requisites
- Your HTC Desire 816 must be rooted with it’s boot loader unlocked. To know how to root your phone click here.
- You must have a custom recovery installed, like TWRP or CWM. You can know how by visiting this link.
- Your phone must be charged over 80%.
- Some common sense and ability to follow instructions.
Downloads
With that done, let’s get this show on the road.
Step 1
Download the ROM and GAPPs then transfer to internal memory.
Step 2
Reboot into Recovery Mode. This is done by pressing the volume down and home buttons together. From the fastboot mode you can use the volume rockers too boot into your recovery mode.
Step 3
Make a backup of your current ROM
Step 4
Make a Full Wipe (System / Data / Cache / Dalvik)
Step 5
Select Install, browse to the location of the downloaded ROM.
Step 6
Select the zip of the ROM, Flash the ROM.
Step 7
Select the GAPPs zip, Flash the GAPPs.
Step 8
Once installation is complete, restart
Step 9
Profit!
First Boot: Device will reboot once at first boot, at start of setup! Upon reboot, will optimize apps and proceed to setup.
Root: It is now disabled by default on CM12. To enable it go to Settings>Developer Options>Root access and set to Apps only or Apps and ADB.
OTA : Since this is the official CM 12 nightlies they will receive continuous updates via OTA. If you want to flash via zips, visit this link. But bugs may happen so please take a backup before performing an OTA so you can roll back to the last working version without a hiccup.
Dual SIM: Dualsim variants (a5dwg, a5dug) are supported, but not fully functional. It’s not possible to make calls if you selected 2G as preferred network mode. I would suggest you to only use one sim card with the dualsim variants.
